Parents are the foundation to their child’s development. Children learn from their parents during their infancy years right through to adulthood. For that reason, I believe it is absolutely crucial for parents to become fully involved in their child’s education from the very beginning. We cannot assume that the school is enough. Learning should not begin and end at school; it should be fabricated within the home continuously. Extra support provided by parents at home has many valuable benefits:
Building Relationships Assisting your child with their school work will develop a stronger bond between parent and child because both parties will feel fully involved. Your child will have the confidence to ask for help and you will understand their learning abilities and how best to support them.
Personal Development A parent’s assistance can have a dramatic effect upon their child’s personal development. With positive support and reinforcement, they will gain the confidence needed to flourish and grow. They will inevitably experience many difficulties at school and with homework they do not understand; your support needs to remain consistent throughout. Include yourself in their problems and work through them together. This will strengthen your relationship.
Have Fun And lastly, have fun! Make learning a fun experience for your children, this is vital! You want them to become fully engaged in learning- this can be challenging at times! However, by keeping a fresh and exciting approach to studying, your child will look forward to learning with you!
It is imperative that parents become teachers as well because they shape their child’s future; they are the role models today for tomorrow’s future... The unity between the child’s experience of learning at school and home will strengthen their personal development. This is why parents MUST become teachers at home!
