With this year’s 11 plus grammar exams approaching in September 2017 many of you may be feeling a little anxious. We would like to give a few simple tips that can help your child to prepare for the 11 Plus.
Turn learning into a fun activity We strongly recommend that parents approach revision for the 11 plus from a creative standpoint. Many students retain information much easier when revision is given a creative edge. For example, instead of setting only setting exam papers, you can also create a vocabulary and spelling test game! This can dramatically boost your child’s engagement with learning, and the experience will be much more enjoyable.
Review questions together Regardless of whether your child is receiving tuition, it is still very important to review their work and progress together. Your son or daughter may feel they need extra support from you to express what they find difficult about the 11 Plus tests. This will give you a better picture as to what you can help them focus on to ensure they receive enough support from the onset.
Create a plan leading up to the 11 Plus exam throughout the summer, it is very easy to lose sight of the 11 plus, especially with any holidays you may have planned. We would highly recommend giving at least 30 minutes of focused revision daily to maintain their standard. Practise in the morning when learning is at its optimum best, and it will also help you to maintain a routine amongst many other things you may have planned for the rest of the day!
Buy some revision books for the summer When it comes to choosing the best revision books, we understand that it can be a minefield as there are so many books to choose from. Visit the ‘STORE’ page of the website to see some recommended revision guide books!
